These are exciting times for Tewkesbury Borough. We have a challenging development agenda as the main growth centre at the economic heart of Gloucestershire as set out through our adopted Joint Core Strategy.
The borough is a vibrant and successful area of north Gloucestershire and faces the challenge of maximising the benefits of significant growth while enhancing the quality of life in our market towns and villages and retaining our beautiful landscape.
The Council is looking for an Assistant Policy Planner to help us in meeting this challenge through the development of the planning strategy for the area including the Strategic & Local Plan (SLP), working jointly in collaboration with Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucester City Council and Neighbourhood Plans.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated person, wishing to develop their career in planning. Working in a small, friendly but busy team, you must be able to work flexibly and to tight deadlines. You will have a creative outlook and work well as part of a team but also be equally confident working independently.
You must possess, or be working towards, a post-graduate qualification in planning and previous experience of working in a planning environment (voluntary or paid) and an interest in the environment would be an advantage.
A key part of the role will be leading on maintaining, developing and reporting on the Council’s housing and employment monitoring, including the Assessment of Land Availability report and the Authorities Monitoring Report. However the role will also be required to participate in public consultation activities, produce maps using GIS, and to help develop new planning policies and strategies for the emerging Strategic & Local Plan.
For an informal discussion please contact Lisa Dixon, Senior Planning Policy Officer, on 01684 272097.
