About The Role

This is an exciting time to join the councils of Cheltenham Borough, Gloucester City and Tewkesbury Borough Councils. We are preparing a new Strategic and Local Plan (SLP) to shape the future planning framework for growth in the area and in this role, you will provide a key role in supporting plan-making and digital mapping. Our timetable for the preparation of the SLP is ambitious and aim to submit the plan for examination in October/November 2026.

This role will require the post holder to take a lead role on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for the SLP, working with other GIS colleagues across the councils. You will support the preparation of evidence regarding site opportunities, maintain our GIS information to ensure it remains robust and up-to-date, and undertake spatial analysis to support plan-making.

In addition, the post holder will engage in a variety of different tasks to support the work of the SLP, including the commissioning and preparation of evidence reports, policy writing and community and stakeholder engagement.

We would like to hear from highly motivated and experienced individuals with experience of:

  • Preparation of local plans and digital mapping.
  • Organisation of and communicating of technical information.
  • Undertaking research to in order to provide accurate evidence to support plan-making.
  • Presenting complex information in an accessible way with great report writing skills.
  • Proficient in the use of technology to use planning systems. 
This is a 2 year fixed-term contract.
